Yesterday afternoon I came across the concept of Project 333, where you live with 33 items of clothing for 3 months. It appeals to me because I like the idea of living with less, and the thought that it will be less stress to choose what to wear, and also because it's a bit of a challenge. And it doesn't force you to give anything away, which is a relief. I love the idea of minimalism, but if I can try it out while keeping all my stuff, just in case, then so much the better. So yesterday evening I rearranged my wardrobe, and put most of it under my bed or in hanging suit covers.

1 Sunglasses
2 Brown handbag
3 Green handbag
4 Diamond stud earrings
5 Peacock dangly earrings that my mum just gave me
6 Typewriter necklace from my sister
7 Button-like necklace from my mum
8 Big black scarf
9 Mushroom spotty scarf

10 Navy espadrilles
11 Navy suede high heels
12 Navy lower shoes
13 Turquoise high heels
14 Grey "fit-flop" slip ons

15 Dark grey dress
16 Grey pinstripe dress
17 Navy Trollied Dolly dress
18 Grey pinstripe skirt
19 Long navy flowery skirt
20 Jeans
21 Khaki long shorts
22 Navy trousers
23 Grey cashmere hoodie
24 Navy cashmere cardi
25 Grey pinstripe jacket
26 Cream linen jacket
27 White vest top
28 Green vest top
29 Navy stripy top
30 Navy plain top
31 White ruffled shirt
32 Short sleeved flowery shirt
33 Black jacket

The exclusions are underwear, nightwear, exercise clothes, and any jewellery you never take off (the example on the website was her wedding ring, I'm using this to keep my glasses for free). I am also excluding dressing up clothes, since I know I have to be in medieval dress for the St Albans festival on Saturday, and there's no way I'm including that it the 33.

H'mm, let's see, what have I been wearing in the last three months?

1. Handbag
2. Green peridot ring
3. Plain gold ring
4. Green and purple necklace

5. White ballets

6. Black chinos
7. Black stretchy trousers
8. Dark green trousers
9. Purple trousers
10. Red trousers
11. Charles Daniels Society T-shirt (white)
12. "This is a wug" T-shirt (white)
13. "Keep Mordor Tidy" T-shirt (red)
14. XKCD T-shirt (black)
15. Olive green T-shirt
16. "Without music the world would B flat" T-shirt (white)
17. Lilac blouse
18. White summer cardigan
19. Men's multicoloured shirt, worn as jacket
20. Slightly heavier purple cardigan
21. Long red cardigan
22. Black cardigan

And have just bought:

23. Another white summer cardigan

This is actually rather weird. I know I don't wear a lot of clothes, but I didn't think I would struggle to get to 33!

Haha! You should see the bags of stuff under my bed then ;-) And all the shoes. I think I'll miss the shoes. But maybe I won't!

If it goes well, I have a similar project you might be interested in. I call it project 03.

Hang on, the 33 items EXCLUDES underwear? I thought "well, that would be doable but I'd probably run short of pants and socks". Then I clicked through and realised what they meant.

I think over the last 3 months I've worn three pairs of shoes, sunglasses, rucksack, coat, inner coat, six shirts, three jumpers and four pairs of trousers, and a suit jacket. And a tie. Total 22. And a few t-shirts that go under the shirts, but those pretty much count as underwear anyway. How on earth do women wear so many different things?

(Excluding waterproof and cold-weather wear because they're a necessity when cycling in Scottish weather, not a luxury.)

Maybe it's a women thing. But I'm pretty sure I would still have lots of clothes if I were a guy, I just like them! And also, it's kind of cool to be restrictive, just to see if it's possible; and 33 *is* restrictive for me!

I was thinking the same. Perhaps I should do the reverse: try to get up to 33 items of clothes I actually like and am excited to wear.

I think I'll give this a go too and see where I get.

How am I meant to get ~26 new items of clothing at this short notice? <panics>

Can I count my shoes as 1 each?

Only if you wear them in non-matching pairs.
